Nightlife

Ibiza is the party world’s capital. The best international Dj´s plays their music into our famous clubs. In the Hostal Marí you can get your tickets for all these parties (from May to October) that take place in the Ibiza’s clubs like Privilege, Pacha or Amnesia. Only at fifteen minutes´ walk from the Hostel, is Es Paradis and Eden a great option of nightlife. Also, the town offers a lot pub options to dance the last electronic, rock and pop hits.

On the other side, for those that prefer quiet nightlife, there’s a lot of concerts by the island and the season: Jazz (Summer jazz festival, on the top of Ibiza’s Castle Walls); blues and rock (Ibiza Rocks Festival, in Sant Antoni offers the best rock bands of the moment); flamenco, Brazilian music and other music styles, played by local or resident groups in the island all the summer.

Gastronomy

The visitor can’t leave Ibiza, without tasting the local gastronomy based on simple dishes, prepared historically by our people, with our local food from the sea and the vegetable garden. If you come in the winter season, you should try Matanza´s rice and Ibiza´s fried pork; two dishes close to the traditional pig sacrifice before Christmas, for the elaboration of sobrasada and butifarra (local sausages). The mushroom season is as well in the winter time.

The hightlights during all the year are the sea dishes: paella, banda´s rice, stuffed calamari, lobster´s rice and boiled fish; that last one, our Ibiza´s star dish (combination of different local rocky fishes with potatoes in companion of banda´s rice.). As well the tapa´s lovers should try Spanish omelette, pepper pie, fried octopus and crostes (strong bread slices with tomato, garlic and Spanish ham, anchovies or tuna, as you wish).

For finish lunch or dinner; nothing better for dessert like: watermelon, local oranges or Ibiza´s bakery and pastries –flaó (cheese and mint cake), Sant Joan Pastry or graixonera (local pudding)- all good choices to enjoy it with a caleta´s coffee (boiling coffee grains with liquour) or with a typical digestive herbs liqueur from Ibiza.

Finally, the wine culture has been very popular the last years on the island, now there are some wineries in different areas, you can visit some of them and taste their wines.

Culture

Ibiza has different museums: On the capital’s you can visit the contemporary art museum; as well the beautiful Arabic traditional space besides the cathedral on  the castle walls. The  greatest you can watch in this  museum, is the value of the pieces it has inside, the archaeological museum located on a big necropolis feet, open to the public. It was use by the three cultures that passed by Ibiza´s history before the  Christians: Punics, Romans and Arabic.

Also, in Sta. Eulalia´s town, there’s the ethnographic museum, where you can discover uses and customs of our population between the XIII and XX centuries. Our local folklore stills alive and every month, there are ball pages (traditional dancing) and night dancing acts, usually on the local party day of the island churches. These acts are combined with art and food markets. We recommend visiting the white churches defensive constructions against the pirates too and the defensive towers over Ibiza´s coast. The architectural of the typical white and squared traditional houses, are also a surprise for the visitor.
